St Cwyfan Church, Aberffraw

St Cwyfan Church

The church used to be part of the mainland but because of tidal erosion it now sits aloft a tiny isolated island, accessible by a rocky path at low tide.

The church that stands today goes back to the 12th century but the original church that stood on the same spot went back possible to the 7th.

There are still a few gravestones dotted around the church but I believe many were lost to the ravaging storms off the west coast.

Times were hard for people back in those days and I would imagine their spiritual beliefs helped them with their hard, rugged lives they led.

The photo featured is my representation of this bleakness and hardship, with the hope of salvation in the heavens at the end.
